Best Of The Best

Some of the best resources for OCD out there

There are a lot of great OCD resources available out there

Below we’ve attached some of our favourites 🙂

Made Of Millions is a global non-profit that is “on a mission to change how the world perceives mental health”. Their “Intrusive Thoughts” part of the website is extremely useful. From detailed information on the different types of OCD, to a tonne of different videos with different people on the topic of OCD (including both clinical psychologists and sufferers), to cool and innovative new ideas (they have an educational OCD bot!). The different articles they’ve written about OCD can bring new perspectives (Dating with OCD is one of those “not talked about but actually OCD sufferers would like some advice” topics they address), as well as practical tips. Check out the site and have a look around at all the different information.

The International OCD Foundation is the central organisation for OCD worldwide. They provide a vast array of extremely valuable resources, including; articles, books, experts and more. The IOCDF has regular streams hosted by OCD experts, and if there is anything happening in the OCD world, they’re who to turn to.

This is potentially the best resource out there for OCD right now. Jon Hershfield, the director of OCBG, is a saving grace to many people across the world battling with OCD. He is an expert in the area, and on his website you will find detailed series on a number of different types of OCD, that often create the response in the OCD sufferer of “how did he get inside my mind?!”. He also writes about the basics of how to treat OCD (ERP, CBT, Mindfulness), blogs about OCD, and has written a number of books on the topic (Everyday Mindfulness for OCD is a great investment, and When a Family Member Has OCD is great for the circumstances it describes). Quite simply, the OCD Sheppard Pratt website is the best place out there for help with OCD right now.

If the OCD Centre at Sheppard Pratt has the East Coast of America covered, then the OCD Centre of Los Angeles has the West Coast. The OCD LA website’s main page has a terrific list of the different types of OCD, with each separate page jam-packed with information, and a questionnaire you can take to see if you are exhibiting signs of the particular form of OCD. These questionnaires have often been where people have first realised they might have OCD! (This questionnaire should only be taken originally to find out whether you might have OCD – after that, all your doing is checking, which is a compulsion and a waste of time). It has a terrific blog, and again, we recommend googling them with specific things afterwards that you want to be informed about. Also, they offer online and telephone therapy, so if you have no therapists near you, they may be able to provide treatment.

Beyond OCD aims to “help all people affected by OCD, anxiety, and related disorders”. The website has a lot of great information about OCD, including articles and videos. The “Ten Things You Need To Know To Overcome OCD” is one of our favourite articles on OCD out there, and does an excellent job outlining what living with OCD means in a practical sense. Whilst we don’t like to recommend having articles/videos/etc. that you “turn to” when your OCD gets bad (due to the risk of them becoming compulsions and merely another part of the OCD cycle), the “Ten Things You Need To Know” is the perfect mix of accurate information that is frequently forgotten/unknown by sufferers, blunt honesty and overall hope, and it is important to have this information when attempting to treat your OCD.
